Strength and Speed


Open to Grades 6-12

Program Goals

The Elk River Strength & Speed program offers each participant the opportunity to become a better athlete through a sound strength and speed development program.  This program has proven to assist its participants to have greater success in their respective sports.

The three primary goals of the program are:

v      To decrease the chance of injury for each participant

v      To give each participant a greater chance to reach his/her potential

v       To help increase each participant’s self-confidence


Program Design

Each session is designed as follows:

v      Warm-up/Flexibility

v      Speed/Agility Work

v      Core Strength/Abdominal work

v      Strength Training

Each strength-training program is individualized and based on each individual’s strength level.


Sessions

Session I – 8:00-10:00 Varsity/Alumni

   Intense Speed/Agility Work

   Advanced strength training regimen

Session  II – 9:00–11:00 Varsity Fresh/Soph

   Speed/Agility work

   Beginning strength training                             

   Intermediate strength training

Session III - 10:00–12:00 Middle School

   Students will be introduced to:

   Form Running & Speed Development

   Front Squat, Power Clean and introduction

   basic strength exercises.

Session IV – 6:30-8:30 9-12 grade.

SESSION NOT AS STRUCTURED AS MORNING SESSIONS 9-12 grade.

Strength & Speed Lettering Criteria

  1. Participants must be in attendance 90% of the time.
  1. The participant must be in the after school strength and speed program for the entire school year or be participating in a sport.
  1. Athletes that participate in sports must participate in summer strength and speed.
  1. Athletes must keep updated records of lifting progress showing improvement and effort. Strength and speed logs must be turned in and approved by coach.
  1. Compliance with weight room rules, spotter responsibilities, and lifter responsibilities.
  1. Previous Activities:
    • Students must have been a participant in a sport previous to taking strength and speed.
    • If not, then student must take after school strength and speed during the school year (fall, winter, spring) AND summer strength and speed.
    • If a student is in a sport, summer strength and speed must also be attended to earn a letter.
